1393009 2015-01-25 04:51:00 Hi guys, after just a day or two over 9 years having supported Orcon, the time has come for me to spit the dummy.

Like all things, and ISPs are no exception, all is fine until something goes wrong. Or until they grow too big and lose sight of their raison d'etre.

Or, as with Orcon, contract out their help desk overseas to nationals whose first language is not English or who have no knowledge of local terminology or geography. And as is with Orcon, carefully hide any phone access to their corporate HQ in Takapuna, nor identifying their hierarchy the way they used to invite you to email them ...

Cut a long story short, after literally hours of frustrating attempts trying to talk to "help desk" muppets in some foreign land, I'm cutting the ties. I've discounted the major players (Spark, Vodafone, or Slingshot), and I've pretty much settled on Actrix. Actrix because they have been around the 15 - 20 years, primarily focused on the service demanding business sector - and have a good if not sound reputation.

Cannot anyone provide any input - before I leap from the frying pan to the fire?

1393014 2015-01-25 08:43:00 My sole experience with Actrix was some years ago when ringing on behalf of an elderly friend.
The service desk's IVR prompts confused me - until I realised I had actually been answered by a real human being - Prompt! Knowledgable! Helpful !

1393015 2015-01-25 11:09:00 I quit Orcon several years ago because of their poor service. I now have Naked VDSL with HD and have never had any problems that were not fixed immediately. On one occasion one of the staff came to my place and checked out the wiring free. They always answer an email promptly, I fully recommend them. mzee (3324)

1393017 2015-01-25 18:58:00 Snap. Fantastic service, they are based in Christchurch and if you really want to can rock up to their offices. I have never had to wait on hold for more than a minute. However ask me again next week after we move and see if they get it right. gary67 (56)
