2000 dead in Nigeria, but no trending hashtags. Boko Haram's deadliest massacre yet: spr.ly via @nzherald

Tweet (obviously) from Amnesty New Zealand (again obvious)

Is it just me or bitching about the lack of trending hashtags completely missing the point, isn't it akin to this

6142

or am I getting old and this is actually relevant to the thousands dead?

That's an issue in and of itself. Why is no-one talking about a massacre (by yet another Muslim extremist group) of 2000 people!!!???

That's exactly what the article is talking about. ;)

1391998 2015-01-12 18:55:00 Some people dead in France - big news.
More dead in Africa - not news....no-one mentions the missing girls now either, imagine if that was 200 French girls.....or 200 American girls.

Perhaps they might learn to look after their own..

1392000 2015-01-13 00:17:00 I am not sure how popular this view will be but think of how screwed we would be without the natural and unnatural population controls on the African Continent.

It is no ones fault but their own that they produce more children than they can feed. The act of procreating is a personal and individual choice, nothing to do with governments or a failure within some welfare system, and every other problem stems from this over-population, how much worse would everything be if most of them lived.

Hmmm.
China has the biggest population.
India second.

India has plenty of slum kids.....

You are correct.
I will go so far as to say perhaps less of them should survive as well no one can deny it would most certainly help.

The huge death toll in Africa is necessary, unpalatable to most but necessary.

China has the biggest population but don't they still have the one child policy, what more can they do. Their society has evolved to the point where they are not losing thousands of these children like Africa does so it is correcting itself, breeding less as more survive but there is a long way still to go.

If Africa evolves to the point where a greater percentage survive but they do not curb birth rates then I cannot see the Western countries being able to stay on the sidelines, the birth rate must fall to accommodate higher survival either this is done by the various countries in Africa or it is forced upon them from the West but the planet cannot sustain their birth-rate with an increase in survival rates.

India is the next major issue, higher survival but no birth rate restrictions of any kind, that will blow up in a few decades.

Now the Western countries including NZ have our own form of this problem. Far too many births that are paid for by the tax-payer and need to be curbed, but right now this is a social issue not a population issue.
