| 1391468 | 2015-01-05 01:19:00 | On TV today. Woman in car travelling at 57Kph. Teenage girl runs out into road and is hit by the rear side of the car, girl is not harmed. Caption "speed kills". This is nonsense! If the car was travelling slightly slower, the girl would have been hit by the front of the car and probably killed. If the car was travelling faster it would have already gone past when the girl ran into the road. It is simply a case of being in the the wrong place at the wrong time, and don't forget Murphy's Law which states that if there is a chance of something going wrong it usually does! |

| 1391470 | 2015-01-05 02:21:00 | Why did the girlie run out on the road anyway? Didn't they teach her to look both ways :D It not only kids that do that. This weekend alone while driving along in light traffic -- twice, at different times everyone hit the brakes because some dip sh1ts and that's being polite :D simply walked out onto the road, didn't even bother looking to see if there was traffic. Then when they almost get hit its ewwww sorry hehehehe -- wouldn't be so funny if someone got collected. Bit like the road toll over this holiday -- the campaign the cops were pushing -- that went well didn't it, FAIL !!! more deaths this holiday period than the last two. At least two were not caused by speed, 1 someone drove off the gravel road ( and the reports said they were going slow) and got killed, then there was the people who did a u turn right in front of a logging truck ( doing the speed limit) and 4 got killed ( that was never going to end well). Not a big fan of whaleoil, but in one article where it points out the obvious problems (well part from to the cops) someone posted the following Video -- its 15 minutes long, has a bit of humor and hits the nail on the head nicely. www.youtube.com |

| 1391471 | 2015-01-05 03:51:00 | I don't like the phrasing of the "speed kills" campaigns and the "speed was a factor" accident reports. Of course speed is involved any time objects are in motion. But the point they are poorly trying to make still has some validity, some boffin somewhere worked out speed limits like 30, 40, 50km/h based on the likelyhood of fatal injuries in various situations. If the car in question hit the girl head on at 50 km/h she may have survived, if the same thing happened at 57km/h it's quite a significant difference in terms of damage done to the teenager. Rather than showing accidents happening or narrowly missing based on a difference in speed they should show the same accident happening at two different speeds and show the difference in results. That's what the phrase "the faster you go the bigger the mess" is about and one of the few sensible things they've come up with in these campaigns. Really though if all they want to do is save the most amount of lives for the money spent they'd be better off improving the roads than having add campaigns nobody cares about or pays attention to. I live on a long straight road in a 50KM/h zone with some shops and a kindy on it, young idiots can't resist roaring down the straight at all kinds of speeds. What will end up happening is someone will decide to but bloody judder bars in which will piss me off because I have to drive over them every day. Just another consequence of idiotic drivers they never consider, all those annoying obstacles they put in to slow people down are the fault of inconsiderate and stupid drivers not the councils that put them in. |

This is nonsense! To me, that shows that running out into a road without stopping and checking for approaching cars is a stupid thing to do. Like the other ad, where the guy pulls out, they all freeze frame and have a discussion about it, and the approaching car guy says I'm going too fast....er....no. The other halfwit pulled out of a side road without checking is the issue. |

| 1391473 | 2015-01-05 20:19:00 | Well Ive just got back from posting a letter and nearly added another couple to the Road Toll. In two separate incidents a drongo walked out in front of me whilst fiddling with their mobile phone. One was a fifty odd year old male for heavens sake. Maybe he was on a suicide mission and is pissed off I managed to stop. Hes got a new pedigree anyway. Actually, a cop told me a few years ago now that Id be astounded if I knew just how many road fatalities were actually suicide. The actual method of choice back then was to drink a bottle of Whisky and slam your car into a bridge abutment. Of course the teetotallers were more than happy to count that as a alcohol related road statistic. Makes me wonder just how many of these car v truck or train are indeed suicide? |

Its a crappy advert for speeding but a good advert for looking both ways before you cross the road. |

| 1391475 | 2015-01-05 20:50:00 | Lack of awareness, competence, or concentration, and outright stupidity are imo far bigger factors than slight speed variations. Someone driving sensibly and paying attention at 51km/h is far better than someone distracted and incompetent at 49km/h. Sure, if the same incident occurs, higher speed leads to greater forces involved, but it really isn't that simple. The other ad that annoys me is the one where the guy in the jeep pulls out in front of an oncoming car and they get out in slow mo and somehow the ad makes it look like the guy who had the right of way and was doing like 102km/h or something is more at fault than the guy who completely failed to give way, and whose complete inability to notice oncoming vehicles, or judge their speed or how safe it is to pull out means he shouldn't be bloody driving anyway. |

| 1391476 | 2015-01-05 21:30:00 | I have to wonder how many accidents are caused by drivers who are distracted when they look down at their speedometer to make sure that they are within the legal speed limit. I prefer to use a GPS that is attached to the windscreen so that I do not need to take my eyes off the road to see how fast I am going. | Bobh (5192) | ||
| 1391477 | 2015-01-05 21:45:00 | Saw someone Almost get collected this morning :groan: Some guy in a low deck truck, on the phone txt'ing by the looks, Head down as if looking at something, a lady with a couple of kids stepped out onto the crossing, the guy would have had plenty of time to slow down / stop, but didn't, they had to step back in a hurry other wise he would have hit them. Couldn't see the number plate either. | wainuitech (129) | ||
