1403053 2015-06-24 21:24:00 It doesn't seem to be a problem for other OSes that keep themselves up to date. Think ChromeOS, iOS etc

This is what people have been asking for to be delivered in Windows, a modern OS

No one is forcing anyone to upgrade to Windows 10. People can quite happily stick on the old stuff. windows 7 released in 2009 and its supported for another 4 or so years.

Businesses can defer updates, they can manage them with Windows Update for Business, or they can put Windows 10 into Long Term Support Branch and have no feature updates, just security updates Time will tell :)

From whats been written so far, the home editions can't have the updates turned off.

One thing that maybe you can answer Nathan -- Although the security updates will come through, what about any new free features that MS are saying that's coming in the future ? Will the user get a message prompting and have the option to install them or can they opt out, or will Microsoft simply push them out via windows updates and to bad if the owner wants them or not ?

and cant be manually uninstalled : if they cause issues. Or so it seems
As can & does happen, MS cant test updates on every possible system will all possible software.

There are some Win7 updates that have caused definite issues in the past. This would have been much worse if they were autoinstalled everywhere as soon as released .

Not trying to be overly negative btw, its all just a discussion before we all upgrade 10 onto something . Im sure the positives will far outweigh the few negatives.
Just a healthy discussion, rather than the smilefest that preceeded vista's rollout ;)

1403055 2015-06-25 02:31:00 Ah, Vista, now what was the slogan?
Oh yeah.

The WOW begins now....

Still waiting.

I will defer Win 10 until it is stable.

If ever.

Linux suffices for most of my needs
Only really keep Windows 7 and 8.1 running so I don't fall behind skills wise.

Fast booting.
'Nippy' on screen.
Stable
Found most of the important drivers, I only had to add 3 USB related drivers.
Compatible with all my W7 software, some going back to W95 days.
Supports DOS, downloads an 'app' if you load a DOS program.

Dislikes:
Plain looking interface which seems to be the fashion these days e.g. CCleaner & MalwareBytes.
Start Menu is a mess.
Spartan, the new Browser is unusable, very few settings or ad-dons. definitely a project in progress!

Very little different to W7 for general use. It is much easier to use than W8.

The idea that a previous licence would be cancelled by installing W10 as an update is laughable! Microsoft would be encouraging Piracy. They know full well that given the know-how you can activate Windows in 30 seconds without their help. Most users prefer to be honest unless short changed!

Home editions can't have the updates turned off. Are you sure? It may be blanked out in in 'Control Panel', but is it enabled in 'Services'?

Guess where those programs got the idea from?

Yep, as stated by MS .
Not sure if turning off the service will be a way around that, time will tell :-)

Both Edge and IE are playing up. One minute sites load the next they dont.

After a reboot sites load OK (just found out) but soon after stop again. :( Nothing wrong with the internet connection, all other computers are working perfectly.

At least they have fixed the start menu bug.

Make sure you sign in on the computer with the insider Registered account ( Microsoft Account) other wise the newest builds wont come through.

Mine didn't show at first either. After doing a bit of reading many people are having problems with it not being available in the updates. To get mine going I had to do 3 reboots and one complete shutdown then manually run windows updates, THEN it came through.

If you have a look at the insider Forum answers.microsoft.com STILL quite a few problems, others have also posted other ways to get the latest version to show /download.

Highlighted above: Would you believe theres a site that posts the latest builds within hours of being available Via MS ????? :D

Edited: once its downloaded and installed Via the Windows update, you can make your Own ISO file from the download. Made it already but not installed from it.
