1391578 2015-01-08 02:05:00 I had a hip operation as well, about two years ago. I remember I was given a choice of which way I could be anesthetized, e.g general anesthetic, spinal and sedition and two other ways of being knocked out (baring being tapped on the head with a mallet ? Just kidding). I chose the spinal and sedition. Recovery was pretty quick. I followed the instructions on regular walking around the ward and down a VERY long corridor as regularly as possible. I still go for a half hour walk most days to ensure the muscles around the leg/hip is kept as strong as practible. The waiting for an op can become quite painful and was a great relief.

Sedition??? Off with your head Boyo!!!

Conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.

synonyms: incitement (to riot/rebellion), agitation, rabble-rousing, fomentation (of discontent), troublemaking, provocation, inflaming

1391579 2015-01-08 05:14:00 Get on with your exercises! :) It really does help. Oh - and keep the pain relief up so you can do them, and go walking too... And mind the hip precautions. It is much better to avoid a dislocation than to cope with all the phaffle if it happens.

A hip replacement is really a very good fix - makes such a difference to your life. Pleased to hear it has happened for you.

Although I haven't had a joint replacement, I have had major surgery (for which a hip replacement probably qualifies). I would have to heartily agree that the physio is EXTREMELY important, as is taking the Panadol every four hours to enable the physical movement (which also enhances recovery time). Don't be a hero about not taking the pain meds!!

Following a cycling accident a few years ago my surgeon tried to play down to amount of movement I would get back in my shoulder following recovery from the surgery. When I went back for the final check a couple on months later, he was very impressed - all because I had been determined to do every exercise (and all the repetitions) that my physio gave me.
