| 1391488 | 2015-01-06 08:05:00 | Father inlaw was saying he got stopped the other day for breath test, they were stopping everything -- no worries hadn't been drinking, Drive around the bend in the road and bugger me another checkpoint (about 1 KM further on) again stopping everything again. He told them their mates around the corner had just stopped him, to bad lets do it again.. NOW the stupid thing, no streets or anywhere to come from apart from the previous checkpoint. Real good use of resources ;) You must remember that a prerequisite of joining the Uniformed Branch of the IRD is that youve been declared Brain Dead. ;) |

He said next time those twits try that he'll reply in dutch, or come up with badly broken English. Some of the dutch words, actually sound like swearing or insults. Bet they dont understand him LOL. Often I get ribbed, they will say something to me in dutch with a sly smile/grin, and while I know a few words, you can never tell if they are pulling your leg or not. SWMBO often trys not to smile as I have to get her to translate to English. Usually followed by -- bastard LOL. |

| 1391491 | 2015-01-06 18:42:00 | Everyone has become accustomed to driving above the limit and can do that without looking at the speedo. So it just needs the human brain to be retrained to be accustomed to driving t the limit instead of beyond it and fatalities will go back down. yes it is revenue gathering but its not going to go away so get used to it or get fined, whinging about it just makes you sound so Australian. | gary67 (56) | ||

More so, few if any people can accurately determine a difference between 50km/h and 51km/h without any measuring device, making a 1km/h tolerance require more drivers to "speedo watch" instead of paying attention to the road. A larger tolerance of, say, the more casually assumed 10km/h, means a significantly higher portion of the driver base can judge that they are "about right" speed wise, and spend more time watching where they're going instead of staring at the dashboard. |

Yes this ad reminds me of last years dumbass speed ad where the guy pulls out of a stop sign infront of a car doing about 107 K saying it was the car doing 107 Ks fault not the idiot that pulled out of the stop sign. The revenue gathering dept here in NZ has no clues.. Hey we could all collectively complain to the ASA about fauls advertizing.. |

| 1391494 | 2015-01-06 20:13:00 | As the cops seem to be saying the same old thing again this year that all the deaths are caused by speed and alcohol I wonder if they will tell us the speed and the alcohol content in these deaths?? I bet not as you will find the speed is beyond 110km and the alcohol level is above the old limit.. | paulw (1826) | ||
| 1391495 | 2015-01-06 21:03:00 | As the cops seem to be saying the same old thing again this year that all the deaths are caused by speed and alcohol I wonder if they will tell us the speed and the alcohol content in these deaths?? I bet not as you will find the speed is beyond 110km and the alcohol level is above the old limit.. Spot on, they wont tell anyone because it would make them out as wrong. Classic example are two crashes, the one where the van did a u-turn in front of a oncoming logging truck, obviously either didn't see it coming or thought they had time. Second one where a car left the gravel road and driver was killed, the article even said, they were going slow, and no alcohol involved. So how do the cops blame those on speed and drinking ?? What would be interesting (it will never happen) but lets say people got killed / had an accident, speed or drinking was not involved in any way as everyone was doing what the cops wanted, What would they blame then ? There is another advert on TV, and while not related to speed or drinking it hits the nail on the head. Was having a discussion the other day about it -- Some people cant drive. The advert in relation is the one where some guy comes over a rise on the gravel road, and has to swerve to miss a goat -- Didn't have traction control, they had driving skills, they asked for directions, didn't have GPS --- etc. The whole point is many cars these days make a person lazy, with anti skidding, anti this that and the other, so when it fails and you need skills they cant handle a vehicle . Bit like the Auto compared to manual.... if you can drive a manual you can drive an Auto, but the other way around most cant. A lady at SWMBO's work had that a problem over xmas, her car broke down (automatic) a friend loaned her a car - Manual -- She didn't have a clue how to drive it, bunny hopped and often stalled all over the place apparently :D |

| 1391496 | 2015-01-07 05:53:00 | In the past there were some very simple devices which were available on some European cars. One had a warning buzzer which could be set to specific speeds, you could have a tone for 30mph and another for 60mph. You did not have to keep an eye on the speedo. My old Austin 1800 had a broad ribbon type speedo which changed colour at different speeds. Most of the British cars had a white strip at 30mph on a brown or black background. The pointer showed up well in the white area. It amazes me that my car beeps when I am reversing, as if I don't know that I am going backwards, beeps when I leave the keys in it with the door open, beeps when I leave the head lights on, beeps when the seat belt is unbuckled, but has no beeps for speed. |
