If maori want to preserve their language, surely it MUST start with their own people, and they need to show their own people care enough to learn it themselves, before its forced on the rest of us. They simply cant ignore the fact that so many Maori really dont give a rats arse & wont take the time to go & learn their own language. See it sometimes, someone starts talking in Maori and others they know don't understand a word - its generally followed by a vacant stare, isn't till the person talks in English they understand . 1392552	2015-01-23 01:45:00	I can't see the logic behind changing the name. It's not as if Aotearoa is the maori name for NZ. The maoris did not have a name for the country, only, as I understand it, a name for the North Island - Te Aka-a-Maui. And what use is making maori compulsory in school? The only place maori is spoken is in NZ and it's not as if maori speakers are numerous. It makes more sense to learn a European or Asian language. And anyway, what makes Gareth Morgan an expert on maori? Just because he's rich? Thank goodness he is not in Parliament with stupid ideas like that. It's just to sell his new book.. Why the media has decided to run with this story beats me unless someone sees a profit in pushing his book sales. It is all a bit like thinking that because some pop star can sing in tune they also know how to save the world. Being successful and making a lot of money in one field of business does not make anyone an automatic expert in everything else as well.	CliveM (6007)

Blimey have son that makes a fortune and we have a man who has the answer to everything. Had a son who made a small fortune, and his dad becomes the expert on everything.... He's a dick. He's a mouth. He's an attention seeker. He can get ****ed. Why should I speak Maori if I am not Maori. It's not the national language.
