I think that Linux will blossom if thats the case. aardvark.co.nz THERE IS NO MENTION FROM MS OF WIN10 EXPIRING OR NEEDING A SUBSCRIPTION AFTER A YEAR none zero ziltch It will keep working. Its free for a year( free upgrade). Thats it . Same when they offered Win8 for $25 for a while. It didnt stop working after a year. My god, you would think some of these blog writers could do perhaps a little research instead of spurting out BS conspiracy theories That rubbish is on a tech blog ?? Oh its Bruce Simpson. he should know better. |

Oh its Bruce Simpson. he should know better. EXACTLY right :thumbs: Personally I think Microsoft are giving away W10 FREE for a year for a couple of reasons. 1. Windows 7 has now reached end of life and they want people to move away from it, they don't want the same thing happening thats happened with XP. 2. Windows 8 /8.1, like it or not, was not accepted by many people, so by giving W10 away its going into damage control by saying heres a better OS ( MS would hope) and it will cost you nothing, it will be an upgrade similar to 8 going to 8.1. What better way to get people back than to give away a OS that other wise would have normally be charged for that as they hope has the best of both worlds and even more features. Some people wouldn't buy W10 even if it cost $5 but since its Free the only real reason they wont upgrade is either programs they have wont work,they simply dont want to change OR hardware to old. After 1 year if a person cant make up their minds to upgrade or not then they haven't even really looked at what is being presented. AFTER the 1st year new installs or upgrades will be charged for, it could be subscription based, or as per now, brought through the usual channels with maybe a price reduction, who knows, but any install /upgrade before the 1 year time limit will carry on working as is, no charges will apply. |

| 1392449 | 2015-01-23 00:35:00 | MS have a Golden Opportunity here. They are going to get alot of free positive publicity from this. Time to learn from Apple. MS should take complete, 100% control over how Win10 is presented on preinstalled PCs & lappies. They should enforce a bloatware free pre-install, Ban all the added on crapware from HP, Tosh, Acer etc Ban the trialware AV added by HP etc on their new PC's that simply stops working after 30days. That alone will stop alot of issues, that MS will get blamed for. Imagine what a mess apple OS could be, if HP Acer etc were allowed to sell it preinstalled on their hardware it & add all their crap onto it . MS needs to take control of how their product is sold/preinstalled by the big OEM's :2cents: |

| 1392451 | 2015-01-23 04:14:00 | Yep, see plenty of mac notebooks on TV. (good for them) Dont see many TV programs with the actors walking around with an MS install CD :banana Don't see actors walking around with a Mac OS install CD either. Seen actors using laptops with Windows on them. |

| 1392452 | 2015-01-23 06:54:00 | That's because if it's a laptop it will be Windows. Apple insist you call it a book, bit dumb really a book needs pages. | gary67 (56) | ||

I've had HP pro laptops since 1998 with "bloatware" installed and its made no difference to me. I did try uninstalling on one occasion but the pc choked and wouldn't work. My fault no doubt - System Restore to the rescue, but after that I've just ignored the extra HP stuff and had no problems. I'm using an HP Envy laptop at this moment with lots of HP bloatware and its still the fastest computer I've ever had. As for Microsoft I think we underestimate the depth that MS penetrates into the computer usage. Most people simply do not care. All they want is a computer which works and can communicate seamlessly with other computers. Microsoft are dominant and their software works. End of story. |
