I've been in that situation, bikes don't seem to think, if it's a choice of smacking into an oncoming car head on or pulling back and shoving the bikes off the road, well, which one would you choose? If you've put yourself into that position as a driver, you've made an error by overtaking on a stretch of road where the visibility isn't great enough. Yep, the cyclists could, and should (though legally didn't have to) have gone into single file, but the actions of that driver can't be excused either - the aggression, the using the phone, and the incredibly poor and unsafe overtaking. Two sets of idiots in this video: the driver, filming with him mobile phone while driving and the cyclists for not going into single file on a narrow road uphill +1 |

Three or more people cycling next to each other is illegal, except in the case of a road race that has been given traffic management approval from a road controlling authority. And from the General considerations for group cycling: There must never be more than two cyclists cycling next to one another. When the road is narrow or vehicles cannot pass, everyone should cycle in single file. Seeing the Video they were holding up traffic so by rights should have gone single file. Some of those trucks on the road these days wouldn't be to happy if they had to slow down and couldn't get past. |

| 1392211 | 2015-01-16 01:05:00 | I have ridden bicycles in England, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Most of the towns have proper cycle paths, not just a painted line on an already overcrowded road. In our street there are two wide footpaths with probably not more than 20 pedestrians a day on them. Why not designate one side for cycles and the other for pedestrians. I have a bicycle which lives in the shed on a frame just for exercise. I stopped using it on the road after a couple of near misses. Time the government got its A into G and created a system of connected cycle paths, there would be more cycles, less pollution, and less frustration for motorists. Overseas I was required to pass the road code test, and my bike had to have a WOF. This was on a metal plate attached to the cycle. |

| 1392213 | 2015-01-16 19:35:00 | Then you also have drivers who would run over there own granny if she was riding a bike. yes the cyclists in that video were in the wrong, bigger yes that driver is a total retard. I cycle everyday and we do own a car which I drive occasionally. I see way more drivers doing dumb things than the majority of cyclists ever do yet as usual because cyclists are in the minority they must be wrong. As a nation and especially in Christchurch since they are rebuilding it and its flat, they should be building as a priority off road cycle ways everywhere. They have just widened a road near me and put in a 1.5m wide footpath alongside a busy road going to a major industrial area, a lot of people cycle to work that way and yet they haven't put in a cycle path, that has to be the dumbest council decision of 2014. |

The cyclists could/should have shown consideration and moved into single file for that stretch of road. But the motorist was on his cell while driving, and overtook dangerously. Please explain how no fault can be attributed to the motorist in this case? |
