| 1391912 | 2015-01-12 05:20:00 | Public transport is a complete and utter failure in Auckland . It is expensive and unsafe, It does not even exist in some of the City and is only used by those poor sods who have no alternative and are lucky enough to live on the route of a bus/train that actually goes from their home to their destination . I see someone hasn't used it in a while . THIS: enormous cost for a bus ticket the need to take several buses to get from A to B the walking in between the stopping at unneeded locations (to the person in question) and the extra time all that takes . public transport for those that work non-standard hours - when there isn't any buses! That would be the point for me . And me! I actually see a business opportunity for someone with a fleet of self-drive cars (once they establish no need for a driver - and it WILL come) . They would operate much like cabs do now . Then you could do away with expensive, subsidised and under-utilised trains and expensive, subsidised, under-utilised and smelly buses and use a form of transport that would take you from where you want when you want, to where you want when you want . This last bit is EXACTLY what public transport has and will continue to fail stupendously to do - it's not convenient . Even if you ramp up services (tapping to poor old taxpayer/ratepayer yet again, for a service they may not even use), there are always going to be gaps in coverage . Public(ly Funded) Transport will only ever be useful for a small percentage of travellers . |

| 1391917 | 2015-01-12 06:11:00 | Why not replace all the cars, buses, trains with bicycle rickshaws therefore creating jobs as well as a transport system that takes you where you need to go and keeps the population healthy all the while cutting emissions. | gary67 (56) | ||

| 1391920 | 2015-01-12 06:56:00 | I was in Auckland over Xmas New Year 2013/14. I wanted to go out to New Lynn on a nostalgia trip. I used to commute to the old Auckland station on the old Wab steam powered trains from there back in the late '50s. Unfortunately Auckland was closed when I was there. Ken |
