2015-01-11 18:52:00 | I also want to know why he didnt ditch it or do a forced landing in the nice big paddocks in the bay I think when you're about to crash and die, and the thing has the glide power of a brick, you act fast and do what you have to do. I doubt any of the pilots on any of the crashed commercial planes that took out roads, buildings etc chose to do so....

2015-01-11 21:55:00 | 1) He was a novice pilot. I do ask why he had all those 'passengers' on his 1st day of solo flights . (true or miss-reporting ?) 2) he didnt have height or speed(?). The parachutists didnt have height to use the main chutes, they had to use reserve chutes. 3) people can die on forced emergency landings. Plenty have died in NZ after emergency forced landings Perhaps hes actually a hero. "......while the pilot steered the plane into the lake."

2015-01-11 22:35:00 | It is somewhat naive to base your ideas about what the pilot or his passengers did or did not do on what has been reported in the news media by people who know no more than most of us. The investigation will sort it all out in due course. | CliveM (6007) | |
2015-01-11 22:41:00 | Will find that the Pilot would be a qualified Parachutist maybe Instructor He would have had a Turbine Rating even though he had just gone through training as a Jump pilot, the climb out would have been to the south and had no other landing options with Turbine failure with one of the worst Glide Ratio for any Aircraft They are well versed of what to do with a engine failure/malfunction with the Pilot positioning the Aircraft to not have any ground fatalities (over the Lake) Back in the 80's went up in a Cresco in the jump seat with Parachute when they use to take the fert hopper out and fill with Parachutists The pilot was Bernie Haskell

2015-01-12 07:32:00 | The pilots in jump planes have parachutes in case one of these jumpers and his chute gets caught around the tail. | prefect (6291) | |
