1391568 2015-01-06 04:09:00 I was told they use ceramic now.
I was also told I don't qualify as can walk 300m, touch my toes mostly, only needed help a few times to put on socks etc....

Anyway, fine with me, I would rather avoid it as long as I can

I have a Titanium one. I had been waiting for 18 months, and my last x Ray in June showed that my joint was completely munted.
Wait time could depend on the health board area one lives in. Rotorua had been given more funding within the last year.

1391570 2015-01-06 08:10:00 If you die of complications later at home it's not their fault..Ah... that is reassuring. :illogical

Hope you have a speed recovery LL. As they say, keeping yourself mobile is very important. :)

Think I'm going home today.
I didn't have a general anaesthetic , had a spinal and sedation. Much better, no nausea, no woosey head ,better recovery.

Cheers, LL

1391575 2015-01-07 19:13:00 All the best for a good recovery LL. My wife had her knee done 4 weeks ago so I have some idea about what is involved. I endorse what others have said re doing the prescribed exercises they do appear to help with the whole process. CliveM (6007)
1391576 2015-01-07 20:51:00 My brother in law didn't have a general anaesthetic, either. He was diligent with his post-operative care and did everything he was told. There was no way he was going to prove he was superman and wreck the delicate surgery.
All the best for a speed recovery.

1391577 2015-01-08 01:37:00 I had a hip operation as well, about two years ago. I remember I was given a choice of which way I could be anesthetized, e.g general anesthetic, spinal and sedition and two other ways of being knocked out (baring being tapped on the head with a mallet ? Just kidding). I chose the spinal and sedition. Recovery was pretty quick. I followed the instructions on regular walking around the ward and down a VERY long corridor as regularly as possible. I still go for a half hour walk most days to ensure the muscles around the leg/hip is kept as strong as practible. The waiting for an op can become quite painful and was a great relief.
