True. But the tax collectors still cruse up and down the Tauranga side of the kaimais just in case someone is doing 52KPH

1391480 2015-01-06 02:54:00 Witnessed on Sunday: Cop stopped on side of 100km/h road presumably ticketing some poor dude who had the temerity to exceed 101 km/h. Two passing vehicles ahead of me stamp on the brakes when they see the cop, all of us at less than 100 km/h. Both vehicles and myself overtaken by a modest little Japanese car on the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing oncoming traffic. Did the cop drop his ticket book and give chase? Hell no. He had one job to do and he was going to do it, no matter what risks were entailed to other road users.

Later on the same night. Cops set up a checkpoint just around a blind bend on a narrow country road popular with beachgoers. Gawd help the poor motorist who could not react in time before seeing the queue of stopped cars in the middle of the road waiting to be breath checked.

If Police were genuinely concerned with saving lives, they would concentrate their attentions on genuinely life threatening driving and avoid putting others at risk by their own constabulary actions. So the real motive is...? You guessed it.

1391481 2015-01-06 04:25:00 Bad thing was if the driver was pissed it woud be his fault. Open and shut case drink driving throw the book at the driver, goes in the statistics even though the kid run onto the road without looking. prefect (6291)
1391482 2015-01-06 04:42:00 The outfit is run by Mad Max I think. For example, here in Napier they are constantly setting up road block checkpoints for licence, WOF and Rego. They are mainly on two roads that lead to one of our lower socio economic areas. They issue heaps of tickets and probably collect beggar all money as the people haven't got enough to feed their family and pay fines as well. I see this constantly as I drive the school van in this area .

1391483 2015-01-06 04:55:00 Father inlaw was saying he got stopped the other day for breath test, they were stopping everything -- no worries hadn't been drinking, Drive around the bend in the road and bugger me another checkpoint (about 1 KM further on) again stopping everything again. He told them their mates around the corner had just stopped him, to bad lets do it again.. NOW the stupid thing, no streets or anywhere to come from apart from the previous checkpoint.

Real good use of resources ;)

1391485 2015-01-06 06:59:00 I'm glad I lived in the 'good old days' in the UK before open road speed limits were even thought of, let alone speed cameras :banana

Memorable was the Coventry bypass on a Friday night, when the Vincent Owners Club met at the Phantom Coach pub......some pretty fast machines could be seen to streak by at times, including one very memorable night when Tom Somerton who had just bought Pete Darvill's Norvin Lightning, went by in a blur. When he came into the pub said he was going at about 140mph, though it is possible he exaggerated a bit :)

Good suggestion. Paint the patrol cars and their workforce at the same time. Maybe some fetching pink polka dots would add to the attractiveness :-)
