461995 2006-06-10 02:30:00 I can play some of my DVDs on my linux box, but others don't work. When they work, they work in both totem & mplayer, and when they don't, totem says:
"Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because you don't have the appropriate plugins to handle it" (I do have the plugins I need - thats why some DVDs play fine) or Totem could not play 'DVD:///media/cdrom0' Could not open location; you may not have permission to open the file.

Mplayer GUI doesn't work anyway (doesn't even open, but doesn't give an error either) but some DVDs work with mplayer command line & the ones that don't give give the following error: libdvdread: Invalid title IFO (VTS_01_0.IFO)

All my DVDs play fine on my Windows box.

the DVDs I've tested are:
Cube (works)
Ghost in the shell (works)
Metallica - Some kind of monster (Doesn't work)
AC/DC - Family Jewels (Doesn't work)
Hellsing (none of the 4 DVFs work)

Any ideas on what is going wrong?

461996 2006-06-10 02:34:00 sorry. that was supposed to be posed in teh help section. would a mod be kind enough to move it? Greven (91)
461997 2006-06-10 03:25:00 Maybe read up libdvdcss... do you have it installed?

Some of your DVDs may be encrypted?

461998 2006-06-10 05:24:00 Are these DVDs different regions? Jen (38)
461999 2006-06-10 09:57:00 They are all region 4 (and I have my drive set to region 4). I'm fairly sure they are all encrypted. Greven (91)
462000 2006-06-10 23:26:00 I've installed libdvdcss, but I can't find any information on how to set it up (how to make mplayer etc. use it)

I just tried browsing through the DVD & manually opening the vob files on one of my DVDs. That worked, but it was all scrambled. I'll have to try my other DVDs
