461941 2006-06-09 12:50:00 I have a hard disk which has winxp[NTFS] on it, i want to retrive some documents from it. so i thought i could connect it to my computer by connecting the "exernal hard disk clip" to the hard disk and connect via usb.
I was thinking whether the ntfs restrictions still lasts?

461942 2006-06-09 13:14:00 I guess you mean "external hard disk clip" .
Unfortunately I have no idea what you are talking about.
Most hard drives are internal and use an IDE or SATA interface. You can get an external drive which will use USB or use an encloser which can use USB.

Open the case.
Make sure that you earth yourself by touching a metal part of the case.
Install the HDD in the same way as the first one's installed.
Plug in your your data (ribbon) cable making sure that the number 1 pin matches on cable connector and HDD socket. There should be a spare cable with 2 connectors.
Plug in power connection.
Close case.

I have one, it's excellent. 5 minutes to install the drive and plug it into USB or firewire.

461944 2006-06-09 22:24:00 There arent too may restrictions for NTFS .

The only one I know of, is dont try and connect a NTFS formatted hdd to a Win98 system . It cant read it by default .

BUT, there are programs around that will do the trick .

BUT, you can have a network with hdd's formatted in FAT/FAT32/NTFS/ whatever . And share folders etc .

It doesnt matter . Anything will read NTFS, (on a network), if its on another computer .

Most people think this isnt possible . Well, it is . And always has been .

Just as long as the computer you have has Windows 2000/XP, or higher, it doesn't matter if the hdd is internal or external, and you've formatted it in NTFS, it should work / Windows will see whats on it .
