461916 2006-06-09 12:14:00 Hey people, I just got a problem when I try to open regedit from the Run window. I shows these error messages:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com
C:\PROGRA~1\symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Divice Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Anybody know whats wrong? Thanks
Am trying to get in so I can perminantly delete a virus called p2pnetworking.exe which is not picked up by the virus scanners I have.

461917 2006-06-09 13:31:00 Download and run this little program, it will replace the autoexec.nt and config.nt files with good ones from your backups. homepages.slingshot.co.nz pheonix (36)
461918 2006-06-09 13:36:00 It is possible that the virus has blocked your access to regedit, I suggest that you download Hijackthis and post the log here for analysis.

Read this first then post the log here not where they suggest.

461919 2006-06-10 12:03:00 Yeah, thanks guys, have downloaded a few programmes and done a big system cleanout and now both the regedit and taskmanager now work and the p2p application is no longer been controlled by someone else.

I just now have another annoying problem. I restarted windows and now the task bar, programme windows, start menu ect... all look like they are back to the old windows 98 look, (the grey task bar & start menu). I'd forgotten how bad it looked!!! :D

Has anybody got any ideas?? Thanks

461920 2006-06-10 12:31:00 Start/settings/taskbar and start menu/choose the start menu not the classic one.

Save the version that you have now, before you customise, I have found it is possible to get into strife here and you may want to go back.
