I've never had any trouble opening zips in any linux distro (including the latest Ubuntu). It is very strange that MTLance wasn't able to open his zip files by double clicking on them. I'm sure he could do it from command line, but that can slow things down a bit when you are doing everything from the GUI

But one common mistake a lot of Windows users make I have noticed (and to echo the words of Jen when I first started exploring Linux) ...

Linux is NOT windows

(and I personally doubt it ever will be)

From my own personal experience, two of the biggest attributes a user new to Linux needs, are patience and adaptability. The apps aren't the same, they might do the same/similar job but they aren't the same

Its a shame MT and others can't quite come to grips with Linux and expect things to be the same. However, one can only hope they learn from there first experience and try yet again.
