462745 2006-06-13 05:55:00 I'm having some trouble with windows xp professional. i've had a new pc with it for a short while and now when i try to log on it tells me you need to activate my edition of windows xp professional. so i click yes do it now and it logs me in part way then tells me that it is already activated and tells me to press ok to exit. so i do and it logs me out so i try again and it says i need to activate then it repeats all over again.

Any help?

462747 2006-06-13 07:08:00 Hmmm, download vista beta doesn't really answer the problem though does it.

Try this, you may need to boot into Safe Mode if you can't log in normally (press F8 before Windows starts loading).

Start>Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs. Select the "Show updates" at the top of the window. Scroll down and look for "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)". Uninstall this file.

Why do you think its called BETA and not final release. Not that final release means its stable either. You've had this thing installed how many nanoseconds? Come back in 6 months and tell us its current install is still crash-free.

462750 2006-06-13 08:00:00 MMM you have either had your head buried in the sand or you dont bother reading whats going on on the net, the vista version runs out in june next year thats fine no worries their because what you have overlooked is that the original windows vista version is launched in january 2007 so i will still have an OS operating. And if its delayed then i will continue with the beta version until june, and if for some strange reason by then if vista still is late launching i will simply load xp back up again. the current xp version i have used doesnt crash on me either but its not as fast as vista just wait and see when vista comes out in january and we will see whos right then i bet you i am.
