| 462700 | 2006-06-13 03:56:00 | Good afternoon. I wonder if someone can direct me to (or offer personal advice on) some reliable, easy to understand information about the process involved in setting up a web site. I know how to create/edit pages in html, and how to administer them. What I don't know is how to, as an individual or on behalf of someone else, organise the web server hosting bit. Thanks in advance. | k8smum (6062) | ||
| 462701 | 2006-06-13 04:04:00 | There are three parts to setting up a web site 1 design the site (files) ( the HARD part) 2 find a namefor your site, ie www.pressf1.co.nz 3 find some disk space on the net for your files number 1 is upto you unless you want to spend a fortune getting a site designer, some good simple software is available for basic sites that are just a billboard, but Dreamweaver is the best for complicated and database driven sites. Number two is easy use www.domainz.net.nz to search for a name that hasnt already been used. Number three isnt too bad to find, pricing can vary widely to host your files. i use http://www.hostme.co.nz as they have some reasonable packages. once you have a hosting site for your files they will send you some ip address' ie 202.27.104.9 you place these numbers into the setup of your domain name site so when people type in your domain name they are redirected automatically to your hosting page. |

Uploading your site to a webhost is relativly easy, most web site design software (e.g dreamweaver, Frontpage) has FTP built in. Or you could use a 3rd party FTP client such as Smart FTP which is free. For hosting I personally use www.webbase.co.nz however www.hostme.co.nz and www.webdrive.co.nz are also good. Webbase has video tutorials if you have never used FTP which could come in handy. |
