462512 2006-06-12 09:09:00 Hi people,
I just bought an X-fi fatality sound card (www.creative.com). It has the 3 usual colour coded connections for rear, front etc.
I'm looking at getting some surround 5.1 headphones (www.xsreviews.co.uk)to plug into it.
It has an obvious headphone socket in the 5 1/2 bay in front which I have used.
However, the headphones Im looking at, use those colour coded plugs as well (all of them) Would this mean unplugging speakers from sound card to use head phones? Or is there another option I could use on this xfi card?
I'm open to suggestions of other head phones if you know any good 5.1s...

Thanks for your ideas...Im lost!

Or you could just use ordinary, non-fancy, non-Gamer headphones with the front headphones connector.

Yeah, non fancy might be the way to go...
Plugging straight in the front does sound awfully simple..

462515 2006-06-13 09:55:00 Zalman headphones:ZM-RS6F

1. Real Surround Sound Headphones produce a real surround field comparable to a complete
multi-channel speaker system and thus enhances directional, spatial, and realistic effects.
2. Enhanced spatial and realistic effects by separating front, rear, and center speakers.
3. Easy setup of real surround-sound by connecting the front, rear, center jacks to the 5 channel
(or more) sound card in your PC equipped with a DVD-ROM for games or DVD movies.
4. Real Surround Sound field comparable to a complete multi-channel speaker system.
5. Excellent fidelity, enhanced localization of on-screen sound, clear dialogue and discrete
sound audibility.

From the Zalman website they also have another one that includes a mic as well the:ZM-RS6F+M there are reviews as well on them if you do a google search you will find them.

www.dragonpc.co.nz has them, you could get them from other places as well but you will have to do that search yourself. :)

462516 2006-06-13 10:08:00 Oh yeah, you use either the headphones or you use speakers, not both.

Plug your stereo in to your soundcard is the best sound option, dolby digital, dts, dolby pro logic, graphic eq.,subwoofer,etc....(get the cables from dse,and its all good.) :D

Those are one of the two headphones ive been looking at...
I don't have a home stereo as I just use my pc.
As far as only using headphones or stereo, one at a time, that is fine
Just wondering if they can share the same plugs through an adaptor so that when I choose one source, it will already be plugged in? Hope that makes sense...
Were u saying that it has to be disconnected to use the other?
Thanks..

462518 2006-06-16 15:37:00 Yes you only have one plugged in at a time.

Either use headphones or speakers, not both.

Have not seen any adaptors that you are talking about.

I realise this is an old post, but thought it would be worth replying for future readers. The adaptor you need for this sort of thing (3 of them, one for each colour) is a "3.5mm Stereo plug to 2 x 3.5mm Stereo sockets." as can be found at www.dse.co.nz

Then the sound will come out of both at once. If listening through headphones turn the speakers off ... guess its still a bit of a problem if you listen through stereo you cant turn the headphones off, and the volume difference between stereo and headphones will have to be watched.
