| 462267 | 2006-06-11 07:15:00 | I used to have a 128MB Ram and a 800Mhz CPU it was slow but then I upgraded it to a 512MB Ram and a 2000Mhz CPU. It was fine and a lot faster but it started to slow down a lot when i open files or play a song.I used to be able to listen to music download songs surf the net and use msn all at once but its so slow now that it takes ages to open a song now and to surf the net at the same time is a challenge for it now. I thought it was things like spyware slowing it down but I did ad-aware, spybot, AVG, Disk Cleanup, a Disc Defragmenter. but its still slow. what can I do???????????? | DanielLittlewood (10530) | ||

The other PC here, brought up that same error / message when it was full of malware. And when I tried to run Nero Infotool. I had to reformat it, coz it had over 300-400 files related to malware on it. Get hijackthis in my sig below. And post the log back here. |

To do thos fire up spybot, select advanced mode, select tools, startup. You will be presented with a list of programs, The short answer is simply disable all that aren't required. Easier said then done if you don't know what your looking at though. There is an info panel that can be accessed on the right of the screen by clicking the arrow, plus Spybot will colour code what it detects, green is good, yellow is questionable, red is currently melting your data. |

| 462273 | 2006-06-11 17:42:00 | "Just disable everything except firewall and anti-virus."quote I've got 41 processes in my Task Manager. Too scared to remove any of them. Checked a few sites to see what I could get rid of, but they all said that "although you could remove [specific task], it might not be a good idea" or that kind of thing. Don't those sites know that you don't ever give females a choice? So I just grin and bear it. Ok the laptop runs slower but so do I :D |

| 462274 | 2006-06-12 05:19:00 | Just disable everything except firewall and anti-virus. While I agree with the heavy handed approach many items maybe required besides those, especially on brandname comps, Some dells for example have a service running just so the cd-writer is able to detect when a blank is inserted, presumibly because they rang China and asked them for the crappest devices the computer world has ever known. Then you get printers, keyboards, audio cards and multiple other items that may relie on items in startup. Then after you find just turning the crap back on doesn't fix the problem, you discover the only way to re-install the software is via their recovery disc and you end up having to back the entire comp up and dirty install the damn OS and all the crap software then install all the updates, then any and all additional programs the user had on the machine that maynot be now working. blah blah blah,an hour long service has turned into a 6 hour job and the customer is due in any minute and your still only a 3rd into the install.... Muhahahahaha...brand name comps suck, And I don't give a rats arse what any other misguided fool says. ok, I strayed a little. :D :D :D |
