462167 2006-06-10 22:49:00 I have a tower that contains an IWILL XP3330-R motherboard. I removed the two sticks of 512 DDR RAM and replaced them with three sticks of 1GB DDR RAM. When the computer goes through POST It indicates that there is 1GB RAM. I ran MSinfo and It also indicated 1GB. Is the information being displayed incorrect and there is really 3 GB or is there a way to get the computer to recognize the RAM?

462168 2006-06-10 23:01:00 I take it, you're running Windows 2000 / XP, or higher?

And that the mobo can take more than 1 - 2 GB?
Speedy Gonzales (78)
462169 2006-06-10 23:03:00 Are you sure that is the model of your motherboard? I cannot find it on the IWILL website.

If you have your motherboard manual handy, look up whether your board runs dual-channel memory - that is, RAM in pairs. The RAM slots on the board also tend to be colour co-ordinated. If it does this could be behind the third stick being unrecognised. Also check whether your board/BIOS supports 3 gigs of RAM.

462170 2006-06-10 23:14:00 According to

www.pcstats.com

up to 3GB of PC1600/2100/2700 DDR can be used
Do the sticks you are installing comply?

462171 2006-06-10 23:45:00 I encountered a siimilar problem with a Gigabyte K7 mobo. It wouldn't recognise three sticks of RAM unless I turned the speed down to 333 from 400 in the BIOS. Not saying that's your problem but it took a while for me to find out why I had the issue. Jester (13)
462172 2006-06-11 04:21:00 I got the amount of RAM from the manual on the IWILL website.

He does that to save himself typing it out each time. You are not the first person to mis-interepret his signature. :)

Speedy: perhaps you could tweake your signature a bit more to stop people reading that as advice for them when it has nothing to do with their post topic. :)

462174 2006-06-13 00:37:00 Further to Jesters suggestion indulged in a spot of maths
If maximum bandwidth is PC2700 = 2.7 GBps the max speed will be
8 bytes X speed in MHz X 2 = 2700
ie Real Clock speed is approx 166 MHz
Memory Bus effective clock will be double this at approx 333 MHz.
Hence Jesters and possibly yours, need to adjust if you have installed PC3200 running at 400 MHZ.
If the above does'nt help, suggest instal and check one stick at a time in the order if specified in your manual, it could be that one holder or stick is defective. It seems stupid but sometimes swopping around the sticks works.

462175 2006-06-13 01:44:00 I have a GA-7VT600 (www.gigabyte.co.nz)

Can I add 2-3GB of 400Mhz RAM or alternatively do I just go for 2-3 sticks of 333 Mhz RAM.

Note: I have a Athlon XP 1800+ which has a FSB speed of 333 as well. i.e. no real need to go to 400 mhz.

462176 2006-06-13 02:44:00 Put in what you can get for a good price. I wouldnt go over 1Gb in that rig. Rob99 (151)
