462938 2006-06-14 03:05:00 Hi I am trying to set up DC++ to be active.

I have been told that it is possible with this modem.
portforward.com

I have looked at that walkthrough but cant figure it out. I think I have set up a static IP address, but I'm still not sure what to put in settings when it comes to ports, or what to change the modem settings to.

I have done an online test and cant seem to get the modem to be UPnP capiable - fp.mgillespie.plus.com I am failing the test on 7 and 8 still...

Please help!

462939 2006-06-14 07:50:00 Although I can run you through how to redirect ports in your modem, I know nothing about the file sharing program youre trying to set up, so unless some other bright spark here knows it perhaps you should try www.dcpp.net I would be betting that someone on there can run you through the whole process straitjacket (9698)
462940 2006-06-14 07:56:00 Hey, yeah i've posted there aswell :D

Im not sure if theres anything special about DC++ or not. It just asks for which ports to use for TCP, and UDP. And an external/WAN IP address.

I dont really know anything about TCP or UDP though.

462941 2006-06-14 09:58:00 Hi

A lot of this is from memory so hopefully I can point you in the right direction.

You may want to start by just using a 'passive' connection and don't worry about the TCP or UDP settings at this stage. If you use a 'passive' connection setting in DC++ then I don't think you need to enter the TCP and UDP port numbers because they are disabled anyway. But be aware that if you use a passive connection setting then you can't access file lists etc from other people who also have a passive connection setting.

So, how to get the 'active' setting to work? I found the best way to get this to work was to get a static IP address from no-ip.com. You enter the IP address into the appropriate box in DC++ under File > Settings > Connection Settings > Active Setting > here is where you enter the static IP address (e.g. myaddy.mydomain.com) and the TCP and UDP port numbers that you have pin-holed in your router, e.g. pick a number not used by other programmes like 19171 etc. Use the same port number for the both the UDP and TCP.

You then need to get into your router settings (your manual should tell you how, but very often you can get into using your web browser and entering the IP address of your router - e.g. 192.160.0.xxx). Once you are in your router settings, open the page with the port forwarding set up (possibly under virtual server?), click Add > User Defined > TCP > start and end port equals the port number you chose (e.g. 19171) for both the 'external packet' and 'internet host' options > also set the 'Internet Host IP Address' to the IP address of the PC running DC++ (e.g. 192.168.0.yyy). this is assuming you are using fixed IP addresses on your home network or PC / router.

The next thing to do is to find yourself a hub! If you get stuck I might be able to drag up some old instructions so message me with your e-mail addy and I can get them to you.

462942 2006-06-14 14:55:00 You will need to set tcp and udp port numbers in DC++ so you can redirect them through the NAT . Firstly open your browser and type in the modems ip in the address bar (10 . 1 . 1 . 1 by default) enter user name and pass (admin/admin default) if its the same as my gen 2 dsl-302g you will clck "WAN" on the sidebar, then "NAT" . Then select "NAT Rule Entry in the drop box to the right of the sidebar .

In the next screen you would click "Add" to create a new rule . For the "Rule Flavor" you want "RDR", and under "Rule ID" you set the rule number, which is proably 2 if you havent set any rules before (there is one rule by default) . "IF Name" you would set to "ALL", "Protocol" should be "ANY", "Local Address From" and "Local Address To" should be the ip addy that the modem assigns to your pc, which if you havent altered the defaults in your modem would be in the 10 . 1 . 1 . 3 - 10 . 1 . 1 . 34 range , most like 10 . 1 . 1 . 3 As to the need to set a static ip address . . . I have never set a static for mine, it always grabs from the modem, and the modem always assigns it the same address . . . in my case 10 . 1 . 1 . 3

"Global Address From" and "Global Address To" leave as is . "Destination Port From" and "Destination Port To" would be the tcp and udp port number . . . ie 19171 . "Local Port" you would leave as is . To finish off click "submit" and close the popup when told to . Then return to the sidebar and click "Admin" then "Save & Reboot", select "Save" in dropbox to the right, "Submit" and the select "Reboot" . After the modem reboots your rule will be active .

All the instructions here are assuming you have not altered any defaults in the modem and that it is still in DHCP mode, and the same ip range . Hope this helps you coz my fingers are whinging at me :D

462943 2006-06-14 21:36:00 straitjacket is right on the money, however a few things to add .

The DSL-302G is a complete heap of crap . I got a free unit when I changed ISP 8 months ago . I was NEVER able to set up a working port forward and I am very experienced with many routers . The units provided free appears to have "special ISP firmware" that takes no notice of port forwarding . Even after a firmware flash with the standard Dlink firmware, it still did not help .

There are some long Aussie posts on the Wirlpool forums with dozens of people having the same problem, only about 40% of people were able to get forwarding working (luck of the draw) . Don't spend weeks on it, if it doesn't work get a real router .

Also use "Revconnect", which is based on DC++ and downloads from multiple sources . I have never been banned from any DC++ hub for using it, honestly 5x better(not banned as there is no built in limiter) .

462944 2006-06-14 22:20:00 Thanks guys, I have it all set and running.

In DC++ where you enter an IP, I have it with the link that no-ip gave me. Seems to work fine, but my local ip (10.1.1.3) Also works.

Yeah I spent all yesterday trying to figure this out and read a lot of problems with these modems, and that the IPS's configure them basically so its a real bastard to get them doing stuff, say, like DC++.

Well thanks a lot guys I really do appreciate the help!

Cheers!

David.

Just wondering... I installed revconnect, for some reason I have over a gig international traffic... Before i had like 50mb. Its either from no-ip or revconnect. Any ideas?

At the moment i have gotten rid of the two, though i would like to use revconnect if it wasnt that using my international cap
Enigmur (10547)
462946 2006-06-16 03:54:00 Revconnect is a mod of the orginal dc++ client. Revconnect downloads from multiple sources, that could be a reason your international traffic has been used.

Try to go for the nz only hubs such as:
dc.silverserver.co.nz - i went to school with the guy that set this hub up.

here (www.hublist.net.nz) is the hublist for the nz only hubs....

462947 2006-06-16 03:56:00 Yeah I use silverserver, along with Jizah's and a few other ones off the nz hublist... Not sure what happened with the international traffic though Enigmur (10547)
