| 462809 | 2006-06-13 16:25:00 | I spilt water on my Sony Vaio laptop keyboard and now several letters on the keyboard don't work. Problem is that one of the letters is the first letter of my password to log into my computer as me. I am the administrator so logging in as guest is useless. I have left it turned off, unplugged for about a week now, to dry but it still doesn't work. If I plug in a new keyboard - firstly, can I do this? - will it work? Where do I plug it in? Will it have to be a modern keyboard? I was thinking that it may not know that I wish to use the plugged in one unless I alter a setting on the keyboard - which I can't do as I can't log in. Please can I have some advice - I know nothing about technology! Many thanks |

Many thanks You might have ruined some of the small switches in the keyboard . . . best to try to use an alternate keyboard to see if it's just the keyboard that is affected . Had a friend drop a Pepsi into his IBM Thinkpad, and after a week of non-working and him just tapping on the keys with the unit turned off while he watched some tv, or dvd's, one at a time the keys all came back . Hopefully this is so, but the worst case scenario is usually the truth more times than not . (Murphy's Law) . You MIGHT have to use an aux keyboard for the rest of the life of the laptop unless you seek professional repairs at a shop that specializes in laptops . Some use a usb connex, others need a dedicated port . Not familiar with the VAIO as to ports, but a USB MUST be there! I would NOT allow the local geek/kid to muck around in your machine, although you can ask one of them to show you the available ports it has . . . . . . just don't let one offer to repair it . ! |
