| 463742 | 2006-06-16 21:31:00 | Morning all. Just a quick question before I throw myself at the mercy of retailers..... I'm thinking it's time to upgrade my video card. Current performance is starting to lag, and I'm also planning ahead for the new relaease of MS F/Sim later this year. I currently have an ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128MB. What would be a natural progression from this card if upgrading? Not sure how much they are, but let's say I haven't won Lotto, but willing to fork out for something that will see me through the next 18-24 months. Cheers Tim |

Personally I think you should be getting PCI-E not AGP as AGP is almost obsolete now and there are limited choices available. I wouldn't get anything less than either Nvidia 6800Ultra or ATI X1800XL. |

You need a new board (probably new CPU maybe ram). |

They are both physically different size slot, PCIE is the new standard and has more bandwidth than AGP. If you must stick with AGP get a 6800GS AGP, 7800GS AGP or ATI X1600 AGP. Much less than these won't perhaps seem much of an upgrade. Of course there is a new Hybrid card www.dailytech.com I think these are cool, but probably won't hit the market in numbers and will be exspensive. |

Unfortunaly that means a new case - Dell didn't supply the standart I/O ports (it is similar to the USB headers but pin 9 is on the other side). I'll stick with XP. |
