463655 2006-06-16 09:13:00 Hi all, posted a thread yesterday asking for suggestions as to why my Firefox browser starts by itself and got some good suggestions as to what to do next. I am posting my 'Hijack this' log in the hope that someone a lot smarter than me will spot something. Also as a matter of interest a computer techie told me today that Microsoft has recently decided that on some versions of XP it will check the validity of your version of XP each day which is why it may be trying to connect to the net.

463656 2006-06-16 09:40:00 Get the file here (siri.urz.free.fr)

And follow the info on this site.

I would also try scanning with Spybot (www.spybot.info)

Download the 1st and 2nd file on this site.

463657 2006-06-16 10:55:00 Now I'm really impressed by the skills and knowledge of you Speedy, how do you learn this stuff....and where do I send the beer. Newteach (4990)
463658 2006-06-16 19:23:00 lol, well Pancake gave me the link previously for this smitfraud fix.

There was another, but it is no longer getting updated.

I just check in google and if it says something like its part of Smitfraud, I usually point people to the link I just gave. It seems to be the right program to fix this annoying pest!

Umm, that notification update, I think you're talking about. I dont think it'll stop u getting on the net. Its just got an annoying feature, that says you're not using a genuine version of windows, or something. I dont know, I havent installed that notification update. I unticked it, when I went to the Windowsupdate site.

Quite a lot of malware can do this, so can programs like Zonealarm and NIS 2003/04/05. Its an annoying feature of these programs. Sometimes, their proxy service decides to stop. And when it does, u can connect to the net, but u go nowhere, until u restart the service in XP. Which is why I dont use either of these now.

So, I take it the prob you were having is fixed Newteach?
