463406 2006-06-15 21:27:00 I have recently purchased a LITEON 16xDVD R/RW Drive, mainly so I can use PC World DVD’s. :)

However, upon installation the BIOS recognises it correctly, it appears in Explorer and everything looks fine except it wont read what’s on the CD, not even the Nero one that came with it.

Now, I’ve installed plenty of CD R/RW’s without any trouble but this is my first DVD R/RW. Is there something I’m missing?

I’m wondering about the Drive itself as it came with the Master/Slave jumper set to Slave but I changed that as the drive it’s replacing was Master. As I understand it the jumpers are set to Master when they leave the factory so I’m wondering it this has been returned previously under warranty and just put back on the shelf?

Any help appreciated.

463407 2006-06-15 21:55:00 That is definately a faulty drive. take it back to where you bought it & ask them it had ever been opened before you bought it Greven (91)
463408 2006-06-16 09:57:00 There’s a bit of a sequel to this that goes so:

I was packing the damn thing back in its “Egg Carton” ends to return it and I felt it go “thunk” . So I tipped it upside down, nothing, gave it a gentle rattle, nothing, so I thought let’s try again and you guessed, it’s going fine .

My best guess is that it somehow got bumped in transport and wasn’t sitting properly on its internal mounts . I suppose the test is how long will it last?

Anyway, I can at least see & use my PC World DVD now . :D
