The ultimate motive is to have a virus/spyware free computer. doesn't matter what works. Not everything works for every one. MT Lance: I have read somewhere in a computer magazine that Mcafee slows down the PC. Is this true? |

But . . . generally both McAfee/Symantec and Snorton are resource hogs and not well-like for that reason . Firewalls are another thorny subject; I like a physical one coupled with Window's own . The general rule is this: . . . . . . . . . . . . you are allowed to have one (1) software firewall; one (1) hardware firewall and a handfull of anti-pop-uppers and a few anti-spyware programs . Just make sure they all play well together and don't report on each other as being a problem . Install and run Belarc Adviser with a printout, keep a hot copy of HJT, and I like to use Microsoft's Baseline Security Adviser (MBSE) from time to time . Use Firefox or the whole Mozilla suite; stay off IE like the plague, even the new (what is it up to now . . . ?) versions as they will always be hacked/duped/spammed/jammed/hated by most of the third-world kodekiddies . Stay away from . warez, P2P's, IRC's and never online game! (yeah! Sure!) MSN Messenger is fairly dangerous too . . . it runs on the IE platform and is subject to abuses like it . AOL IS Internet Explorer with window dressing! Personally, run a Linux opsys and get away from the whole bag of crappola . . . . it is pretty impervious to these attacks . . . . . . . . . . for now . If you stay with Windows, be prepared to become an IT semi-pro! Just remember that like a rectal orifice, everyone has an opinion . . . and you can only read anecdotal results at best . Your opinion may or may not align with another's . . . don't get all excited . . . it's only an OPSYS! |

I run McAfee Anti Virus & Anti Spyware 2006 on this computer: (OLD COMPUTER)1.6Ghz P4 CPU, 512 DDR RAM, and 40GB HDD. And the other one is no use to show you the example because it is capable of handling most of the software: 3.0GHz Dual Core P4 CPU, 1.5GB DDR RAM, and 400GB+ HDD. I like McAfee with daily updates. Everyday it just download new updates for your computer and the anti-spyware has improved a lot over the years. |

Search for its uninstaller.exe in programme file if possible. And stay away from this nasty things.Especially P2P software like edonkey full of nasties programme like this. If you have McAfee Anti-Virus and Anti Spyware it is a lot easier to do things. Like I can't find some random programmes and it dected as spyware so McAfee romoved it and I don't see that programme anymore now. |
