463359 2006-06-15 11:30:00 I know that profile and settings r located in c/documents and settings/ administrator. But the question how do i back it up on a different HD partiton or on a cd. I tried to copy into different location but says files in use.

I would run the File Transfer Wizard that is available in XP as this backs up all your personal settings, documents etc and is an excellent way to backup these settings.

You can then use this file to migrate to a new (or new to you) PC or just simply to hold as backup.

The same utility is used to restore same.

463361 2006-06-15 21:21:00 What paul_nz has suggested is correct but make sure that you also make a separate backup of Documents and Settings in case a restore does not work.

I know someone who got caught like this and could not access any of his data when the restore failed for some reason.

463362 2006-06-16 09:58:00 I dont hav my win xpro cd. I dont have File Transfer Wizard installed. Is ther any other way polo (6383)
463363 2006-06-16 19:48:00 File & Settings Transfer wizard is installed by default, under system tools, if it is not there for one reason or another, do a manual backup as Foxy said. snoopy (74)
