464575 2006-06-19 22:08:00 Hello, what can make a filter fail?

Went to use the internet from home yesterday and there was no connection. Rebooted the modem telocom sent out (as I frequently need to do) and still no go. Tried the phone later on no dial tone. Plugged phone direcctly into wall and recieved dial tone - problem with filter.

After i spent around 28 minutes on hold with Telecom, then a further 5 minutes once the operator picked up, I was told that Telecom infact had not sent me the modem (strange, I know that they did) and so would not send me a filter. I asked if they had tried my previous address, no they hadnt, a further few minutes on hold and I was told that the previous address was under a different name. Once I explained to the Einstein at the other end that yes, I had moved house hence the previous address would be under a different name he agreed to send me a filter. :groan:

My question is not regarding Telecom's incompetence, but how on earth does a simple filter suddenly fail? Was working fine in the morning.

464576 2006-06-19 22:15:00 huh i'ts not different to anything failing......i've seen simple phone adaptors fail (the 'double adaptor' types) and these have no moving parts, I've seen plenty of hardware fail for unknown reasons....... drcspy (146)

So they originally sent the modem to someone else and you expect them to know this? If you're so clever you should understand that filters are cheap devices and there's probably a faulty capacitor inside it .

No, they originally sent the modem to me at my old flat under my name, then reconnected the phone and broadband at my new flat all under my name . I would have thought they would have some documentation on the change of address, especially as I had only recently rung up to politely ask they send my bills to me, not my previous address .

Thanks for the faulty capacitor tip tho! Feeling smarter already .
