464772 2006-06-20 10:17:00 No its part of XP. It's telling you something is crashing the system.

Go to control panel / admin tools / event viewer. Look under system or application, and look for errors...

Also right mouse on my computer / advanced / startup and recovery / settings. Untick automatically restart.

If it restarts again, if it blue screens, see if it gives the name of a driver or file.

What have u installed lately in the way of drivers / hardware??

464773 2006-06-20 10:36:00 sorry about the sloppy post, i was fustrated my computer kept restarting and wanted to post something b4 it did it again. nothing comes to mind about the uninstallation of any drivers, my hard drive doesnt sound healthy, i'm about to replace it. could it be that windows is begining to corrupt as hdd slowly dies? also i have 2 different types of ram one ddr333 and one ddr400 should that cause problems? it never has before now if it is the ram. next time it blue screens i'll post a picture of it Jimmy D (2061)
464774 2006-06-20 10:47:00 You wont be able to capture a blue screen. Or show a pic of it.

As it wont let u back into windows, without rebooting.

Just write down the filename if it shows one. And that usually tells u whats causing the crash.

XP usually crashes if a driver / hardware or ram is faulty, or corrupt.

Using ddr 333 or 400 should be fine. BUT, if either simm is faulty, the system can crash.

i was planning to get the ol digital camera out. so it couldnt be related to my hdd dying?

464776 2006-06-21 04:52:00 It's *possible* that it's the HDD, but in my view more likely to be faulty RAM.
Since you have 2 sticks, try one at a time.

464778 2006-06-21 09:23:00 Win32k . sys is the prob .

Are the ram timings in the BIOS at their default settings??

It looks like this error can be caused by the wrong ram settings in the BIOS .

And whats the brand/model of the motherboard? Do you know?

And yup, I would test each simm of ram as well .

And whats the videocard? onboard? AGP? Nvidia, or ATI based?

464779 2006-06-22 04:25:00 i havnt played with settings in the bios for a while but will have a look when i get home. my video card is an AGP 128meg xabre. its a gigabyte board with nvidia chipset running a sempron 2400+ cpu. i was running two monitors through the extra DVI output on the xabre if that could sometimes cause problems? i'll test each stick of ram 2night. thanks speedy Jimmy D (2061)
