465250 2006-06-22 08:23:00 I am currently in the UK and am looking for a webcam from NZ for my family to use so we can video conference. They dont have a lot of money to spend but still want something that is going to be usable. I found this one on the dick smith site www.dse.co.nz

Its the xh5096 if the link doesnt work.

Has anyone had any experience with it and can recommend it or perhaps there is a different model that someone has used that they can recommend that is similar in price

Thanks for your help

465251 2006-06-22 09:14:00 I've used one of these: www.dse.co.nz

They're not bad - fairly reasonable quality. In saying that, I have seen cheaper ones around, so it might be worth getting them to go and visit a few stores (DSE, Noel Leemings etc. etc) and see what's out there now.

465253 2006-06-22 16:29:00 I use the VEO brand for web cams, and they have many models in all sorts of price ranges .

They are available here in the US for under $10 . 00 for some of them . . hopefully this is a brand you can find in NZ . Some have built-in mikes, others not .

Resolution is pretty good . . . not a whole lot of pixels, but they are focusable and render a pretty good pix . I used mine on Yah!Chat and also MSN Messenger, although Yah!Chat falls apart all the time and freezes .

Hello! (http://www . hello . com/) (352 x 288 pixels) has the ability to send freeze-frames and it works when the live chats won't .

Hopefully this helps a little .

465254 2006-06-23 01:03:00 I've got this one, a few companies re-badge and use the same camera under their own logo .

I use it for video calling over MSN messenger and have found it to be very easy to use and no problems encountered . Using it on an XP box .

Resolution is adequate for Internet Video calling, I wouldn't hope to record my kids first steps on it .
