Do i have to go back to using IE

465179 2006-06-23 00:14:00 That memory useage is quite high but would be normal if you keep lots of tabs or windows open. Try closing some and restarting FF occasionally. What version of v1.5 are you using? Check that you have the latest as older versions of FF has been known to have memory bugs. ghostrider (10600)
465180 2006-06-23 00:38:00 That memory usage is pretty normal even in the latest version if you have multiple tabs going for a while, my memory usage is often like that for example. Nutter (10601)
465181 2006-06-23 00:40:00 That is not 'up the roof'. Some people's FF uses 300mb! mejobloggs (264)
465182 2006-06-23 01:21:00 Mine is at 51 MB right now. I guess it's alot 'cause of tabs, windows, and also I would think the built-in things IE doesn't have such as the pop up blocker and stuff would raise it that high. But it's still a great browser. gradelover924 (10602)

300MB?!! How on earth do they manage to get that?!

Right now I have two windows and umpteen dozen tabs open and Opera is cruising along at just under 70MB. If I close everything down to one window and tab it will be around 20MB.

Last time I looked FF used more than that with one page but since FF isn't my usual browser I don't know how much RAM it uses when fully loaded with a similar number of tabs.

465184 2006-06-23 03:01:00 Isn't it affected by the way you use the browser? Using tabs rather than separate incarnations of the browser ? I seem to remember seeing an article about comparative tests on browsers in one of the Australian magazines. Graham L (2)
465185 2006-06-23 04:00:00 at the moment my copy of firefox 1.0.7 is using 144.460K of memory & 99% CPU with 33 tabs open! stu161204 (123)
465186 2006-06-23 04:51:00 Man... I wish mine used 144k mejobloggs (264)
465187 2006-06-23 05:00:00 Right, test time....

Both browsers have 25 tabs open, Firefox memory usage is currently 55,300K and Opera's is 52,956K. That is after restarting each browser and loading the tabs. From past experience I would expect the usage to go up more during a session even after some tabs are closed.
