465110 2006-06-22 01:25:00 A question for the knowlegable.

What are the likely causes for a running program shutting down and leaving tou looking at your desktop. No warning of any sort. And no message.

Spcificly I am talking about a game. Just stops without even a flicker. Computer has no problem starting game again.

The dumping does not occur at any specific place. More often than not it does not occur at all.

I blame the software, but then I'm usually wrong.

465111 2006-06-22 01:42:00 Do you have the correct graphics drivers? Problems with these can cause this kind of behavior. Corrupt DirectX files can also cause it, as can faulty RAM - although if it's faulty RAM you would normally notice it in more than just the one application. The problem could also be an issue with the game itself. Erayd (23)
465112 2006-06-22 01:42:00 Depends on the game, if you are talking about Half Life 2, then it could be Steam or a fix in the game that needs sorting out.

Had similar problems, went to the site, got told a few things relating to that problem got it fixed.

What is the game? More than likely it is the game and not your computer, possibly update your graphics and sound drivers.

465113 2006-06-22 01:51:00 The game is MS Flight Simulator 2004.

Have an NVidia 7900 GT card with the latest drivers.
Have 2 gigs of low latency ram that survived an overnight sesion with memtest.

Surely if it were a software problem it would occur at the same place every time????

465114 2006-06-22 01:53:00 I on't know about drivers. Some games are so buggy, I've had that happen to me with certain games, fortunately reloading my save I got past that point. pctek (84)
465115 2006-06-22 02:26:00 Even before reading it I guessed Flight Simulator. ;)

It's obvious , Jack. Somehow, you have got your name on the US terrorists list. One of the patches makes the game call home, and check your name against the list. They don't want you honing your jumbo jet crashing skills using their software.
