| 465125 | 2006-06-22 02:44:00 | I currently use a 160GB hard drive with three partitions. I am looking to split one of these partitions into two separate partitions using Partition Magic 8. Partition I require to spit is NTFS formatted however this option under is greyed out under partition operations. Anyone know why this is? I just found this on PartitionMagic help If Split is dimmed (unavailable) on the Partition menu, it is most likely because you are trying to split a primary partition when you have already reached the maximum four primary partitions (such as three primary partitions and one extended partition) allowed on a hard disk. You can, however, use Split on a logical partition within an extended partition. Any help is appreciated. |

What you'd need to do is shrink down the primary partition you want to split, move the other primary partitions to fill the new space, expand the extended partion & create a new logical drive in that. Of course, this will take a long time & you run the risk of corrupting you partition tables & data :) |

I would move all data from the partition you want to divide, then using disk management, delete that partition and reformat it in the half size you want. Then just format the remainder of the partition. |
