Been checking out a friend ADSL connection.

Randomly seems to *drop* off at random points

Started pinging ihug and another ISP's DNS server and randomly it would timeout. No idea why.

Any suggestions as to why it is?

They're not too far from the exchange, getting like 3200kbps download / 850 up.

Many thanks

Chill.

466220 2006-06-27 06:26:00 Have you had the line checked for faults? What about other phone devices within the house, have they been checked out. This may be a bit hard if the dropoffs are infrequent and random. I had a faulty phone which seemed to function OK when using it but it was interferring with my ADSL signal. Once I removed it from the circuit my dropoffs were resolved. Jen (38)

466222 2006-06-27 09:44:00 Looks like they didnt have a Field Support tech from Telecom come out and filter the line.. only ONE on the wall socket that the DSL modems hooked up to.

I'll get them to buy a few more tomorrow and see if that affects things :)

466223 2006-06-27 09:46:00 Is it the network card damaged? MTLance (6768)
466224 2006-06-27 10:43:00 If you mean no web pages can load, but you can still ping and get e-mail. Router reset fixes it, but the problem comes and goes.

Seems to be a problem at Telecom's end and no solution... or at least no suggestions/help from Xtra.
