| 466204 | 2006-06-26 06:41:00 | I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 notebook - Win XP Pro - It's a great machine but it has a nasty habit. I've set up to "do nothing" when I close the lid, but when I do close it, open windows all shrink to 5" x 4" and stack themselves like a pack of cards in the top left corner of the screen. The Dell support group have been no help - I wish to put the kibosh on this irritating behaviour. I want normality in my life, I can't imagine that it's a hardware problem, but just in case here are the specs: 2.0 GHz dual processors, 2GB RAM, 17" 1920 x 1200 screen, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce graphics. Help! |

I'm sure it would power down certain components like hard drive/lcd screen/grahics card etc... What process do you go thru to put the screen back to normal? |

This is my 4th laptop running XP and I've always had them set to "Do Nothing" on closing the lid and the on/off switch set to Hibernate. If I want to shut down I use WinKey+U+U shortcut. With every other laptop, that's all worked fine. Usually there's a switch which turns off power to the screen as the lid closes. With the Dell, there's no switch visible - maybe it's hidden in the hinge. Whatever, the screen turns off when the lid's closed. With other laptops you open the lid and, voila, everything's as it was. With this one, it's as I've described. Even if I use WinKey+D to clear the desktop, when I open the lid and toggle that command the blessed windows still stack up in the corner. It may sound like no big deal, but I have a lot of windows open most of the time and it's a right pest! Thanks for your response SolMiester, it's the first on 4 forums! |
