465982 2006-06-25 07:13:00 I am selling my old 80GB IDE storage drive to make way for a SATAII, the best value I can find is the Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 160GB for $110

Would like to know, are these drives still 'deathstars', or have they become better quality after Hitachi bought them from IBM???

Does anyone have any themselves to speak of?

465983 2006-06-25 09:54:00 Can't comment on the Deskstar but personally I would put up the extra $15-$20 and get a Seagate with a 5 year warranty. It's the only brand I purchase.

465984 2006-06-25 14:19:00 I think I will get a seagate actually, as I can get it for only about $4 more (and 2 years more warranty) Agent_24 (57)
465985 2006-06-25 19:20:00 Yea stay away from Hitachi SATA (or any for that matter) as had quite a few die recently. Go with Seagate. CYaBro (73)

465987 2006-06-26 02:05:00 I have had both Maxtor and Deskstars die with no warning, Seagate are the best, I have had one of them fail but it gave pleanty of notice and Ascent replaced it very fast extra warranty can never be bad

just my :2cents: worth
