466094 2006-06-26 02:41:00 I am building a system that has to be resonably future proof (sigh) for the next 3 years or so, and are looking into Amd's dual core technology.

The applications it will be running include Graphic and 3D suites such as 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Maya and Photoshop and audio production software such as Sonar 5, Cubase SX3 and Sound Forge.

So with these types of apps in mind, and at this stage of development in dual core technology is it worth making the purchase? Any help, thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

466095 2006-06-26 02:54:00 Dual deffinately! I have one and they are good for anything, especially if you do a lot of multi tasking, are these programs very CPU intensive?

July 24th there will be a 30 - 50% price drop, so if you can hang in till then, you'll get more CPU for your money.....

466099 2006-06-26 07:42:00 Most of the apps the OP mentioned are muplt thread enabled so will make good use of dual core cpu's, so I would go dual!

939 socket chips will drop in price when new AM2 socket chips hit NZ in bulk.

Eeek? Nah, good. Well unless you just rushed out and bought tha latest super duper CPU....hey but even so, be comforted in the knowledge that it will all be obsolete in next to no time anyway.....
