466772 2006-06-28 04:38:00 I know they are a few years old and not used that often but why won't they open ?
A CDrw and DVD r only won't respond to button pushing ( lights do flash ) or eject from their menus.

Thanks

466773 2006-06-28 04:52:00 Hi cowboy. The drive has a small (1 mm) hole in the front. Straighten out a paperclip and insert the end in to the hole. Scouse (83)
466774 2006-06-28 05:01:00 It's possible for programmes to "lock" the drives . This stops the buttons from working .

That paperclip trick works on the mechanics of the drive . . . it doesn't use the electronics (except for one drive I encountered which had to have power connected to the drive) . If the trays are stuck, that should fix it . If it doesn't, look for programmes which might use a CD, just sitting, doing nothing .

Must have been bunged up alright

Thanks
