466455 2006-06-26 21:38:00 this sounds really stupid but it seems to be true

I installed "Hitman - Blood or money"

The game played fine for a bit . . . . I then decided to up the graphics a bit to see what I could get from the game

so I tweaked the settings up . . went back into the game and played for a bit . . . then it kept locking up . . . so I figured must be a bug or summit . . . . and went about installing update patch and new drivers for graphics card . . .

went back in game and still doing it . . .

then things got worse . . . .

it speard to when just using the pc normaly in 2D ie browsing net and stuff, suddenly everying will lock up and the display on the screen will get mashed up . . . sometimes hearing a click and screen would sort its self out and sometimes staying locked up (click as in from monitor, like when u change resolution)

but if I play any game it will happen very quickly . . . . as if working the graphics card brings it on . . . .

I used to work a PCservice call . . . so Ive done all the normal stuff . . . . ie, formated and re-installed everything . . . . its still doing it . . . (I was amazed that it was still doing it as was sure it would be a S/W issue)

but without a doubt its still happing

needless to say im a little gutted as before I installed the game PC was working fine . . . .

I think that the game has in some way damaged the card . . . . just wanted some conformation . . .

466456 2006-06-26 22:09:00 When a graphic card fails it is more liekly to happen on a game as it is working a lot harder than 2D.

It may have just as easily happened on another game at that specfic time.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way.

If that is the only cause, I'd better start looking at replacing my old Ti4200 soon

I am not totally convinced you have a graphic card issue, it may ultimately end up being that, but nothing you posted specifiaclly points to the video card itself .

Are you overclocking anything? CPU,video card, ram?

Also all fans seem to be ok?

Try and test the card in another PC .

First, I'd hardley call a reformat and reinstall normal troubleshooting . In fact thats total overkill .

I'd say its the card . For sure in fact . Doesn't help that its an Aopen . You have a nice ASUS board - why didn't you get an ASUS card? They have a 3 year warranty . . . .
Aopen made the worst ever optical drives . . . . .

New card time .

What specific thing did he post that points specifically to the video card? He was tweaking graphics settings when the locking problem first occurred, but you have to be doing something when a component fails.

Certainly video card is a high suspect, but in no way is it a definite.

There are other brands of video cards with longer warranties. Asus are generally overpriced for no advantage other than the name. Most of the mid ranged cards are all reference cards anyway so buy on price, warranty and quailty of fan.

466463 2006-06-28 08:00:00 Is the card reset back to normal now?, when you tweeked the settings, were you overclocking the card?, is the card hot?, have you removed side cover to check card seating etc? How about the older card drivers? SolMiester (139)
