467422 2006-06-30 06:46:00 Hi all,
does anyone know of a freeware prog. that I can use to monitor the CPU temperature? I have modified an old PC to use as a file and printer server and have reduced the PSU fan speed and removed the noisy little CPU fan, installing a 120mm case fan running at about half speed in an effort to reduce the noise and would like to keep an eye on the CPU temp just in case. I can do this in the bios setup but the mobo didn't have any monitoring utilities with it, as most modern ones seem to do. I found a couple of progs by googling but neither listed or worked with my mobo.
The mobo is a PC Chips M741LMRT with a slot 1 pentium 3/550 processor running at designed speed. By rebooting and checking the PCU temp, it seems to be sitting at around 24 - 32 degrees, but of course I can't see what is happening when the work is being done (not that it has to actually do much!) and is running XP home.
Cheers.

467423 2006-06-30 06:50:00 I found a couple a while back in Konfabulator...they would reside on the desktop and tell RAM and temp values at a glance.....lost the link...but it should be Google-able I think..... SurferJoe46 (51)

467425 2006-06-30 07:35:00 I also use Motherboard Monitor, it is great, also Speedfan, that can log a graph of temps (I am not sure if MBM can) and also do HDDs The_End_Of_Reality (334)
467426 2006-07-03 06:59:00 Thanks,
MB5 was one that I tried but it wouldn't work with this mobo. Machine seems to be chugging along happily so maybe I wont bother.
cheers

467428 2006-07-06 07:17:00 Cheers Memphis,
CPUZ worked a treat. Not free but near enuf. CPU is ticking away under load at around the 30 degree mark so no worries. Thanx 2 all for the input.
