467045 2006-06-29 04:55:00 I posted a week ago abotu laptop speeds and all that jaz, I think I have worked out what I want but thought your opinions would be good two.

I have narrowed it down to two laptops, both Toshiba, but am undecided as to which is the better value for money. I am looking at basically for the fastest one of the two and what is going to give me the best performance for web browsing, ripping CD's and DVD's and encoding the odd avi to DVD file.

First is here:

Second is here:

Thanks for your help

467047 2006-06-29 07:19:00 It has also the bigger HD which you will need for encoding video. Might even pay to upgrade the HD to a bigger one or get an external one plod (107)

You originally said you'd be taking this to Uni? If so, I'd also add the Tecra A6: www.softwareshop.co.nz (linked off PriceSpy). Its the same price as the laptop from DSE, same specs except its a 14.1" and weighs 2.26kg, and is much more Uni friendly :) Add anothe 512MB ram and you've got a sweet laptop that'll handle what you want very well.
