467563 2006-07-02 01:19:00 ... (no phone line rental) does seem to imply "free".

I'd think it would be imprudent to assume even slightly cheaper. :)

I see your point, perhaps it would have been better to state "no telephone equipment service charges".

I see the possibility of $1 or so cheaper....
As VOIP gets more popular the "value" of the telephony service on the line will decrease. Which means we get to pay for all those stranded assets in one way or another. Again.

467565 2006-07-02 02:28:00 A whole $1? Optimist.

Remember that the "line" is not just a piece of wire (expensive as that is to install and maintain). It goes all the way inside the exchange to a subscriber's line unit. All the equipment is present, and has to be: the line might be wanted for a telephone service. Telecom is a telephone company.

If anyone expects a substantial discount for line without the telephone service, remember that Telecom will allow you to not be listed in the directory. The listing is included with the telephone rental. If you don't want to be listed, they will charge extra. :D

467566 2006-07-02 02:52:00 I have recently had a "new connection" to a Telecom exchange, and discovered that you can have it "unpublished" for no extra cost .

However that is different to being "unlisted", as it is still available from Directory Services, just not in WhitePages either hardcopy or web based .

So it's "unpublished" .

For my "published" one, they have discovered a completely new and non-existant address for me in the present directory . One has to wonder how that was accomplished as it has been correct since 1989, we are presently "in negotiation" over some financial recompense if it cannot be changed before the new directory is out .

467567 2006-07-02 02:58:00 Some one has blundered. Heads will roll. Telecom removing a charge? This will have a serious impact on the share price, and on managerial bonuses. :( Graham L (2)
467568 2006-07-02 03:34:00 and whys that gattung ***** still in business? d00zer (7983)
467569 2006-07-02 03:47:00 That's an unneccessary comment.
You may have just lost sympathy from some people who'd otherwise give you advice on your setup.

467571 2006-07-02 04:03:00 Here's the funny thing

Why is it everybody hates Teresa Gattung so much?

I owuld imagine that she has earned her slary for Telecom for dragging out their monopoly and profit-making ability for so long. After all that was her job and one which I must admit she has performed admirably.

Now that may mean we as consumers have paid more for lesser services for longer, but that is not Gattung's fault as it was not her job to offer cheaper and faster broadband to the masses.

If I employed somebody and gave them a task, paid them a market rate to carry out that task to the corporations advantage and they succeeded, then I think I would be inviting that CEO back for more time at the top.

Personally - bring on unbundling and lets see what the future has to offer.
