| 467552 | 2006-07-01 02:03:00 | I just moved into my city apratments and got woosh, but it was too slow so i was wondering if i should go with a normal jetstream line.... as a student i am really short of money and would really need help from you guys out there I have two options, help me choose whats best for me For jetstream (faster) they told me this when i called up: 1. I need a phone line with them ($39.95 a month) 2. Have to pay $49 fee for a new connection 3. Pay $49.95 ( for the XTRA broadband explorer plan that i want) i just dont have that kind of money to pay $90 a month for phone and internet.... and i dont even use the phone.. i use my moblie/skype when i need to call or WOOSH $49 a month, but reallyy really slow speed only about 56k surfing speed :( will an antenna booster help with speed? :confused: |

| 467553 | 2006-07-01 02:46:00 | Possibly - I have Woosh in Wellington, and get around about 300kbit/s on average, much short of the theoretical possible speed. | somebody (208) | ||
| 467554 | 2006-07-01 02:47:00 | Why do you think they like to rob people like you? It's everyone, not just you. Under unbundling "naked DSL" will eventually be available (no phone line rental) but you will likely have finished studies by then and be working for Telecom. How can we tell if a better antenna or a booster will help, if you don't give a clue as to the present Woosh signal level? |

| 467556 | 2006-07-01 04:04:00 | ... Under unbundling "naked DSL" will eventually be available (no phone line rental) "unbundling" means that the lines will be free? The lines will still need to have their capital and maintenance costs recovered. Cheap "naked DSL" is likely to be like the Emperor's clothing. ... 1. I need a phone line with them ($39.95 a month) 2. Have to pay $49 fee for a new connection 3. Pay $49.95 ( for the XTRA broadband explorer plan that i want) My bet is that the new charging will be something like: $150 for new connection. (Telecom have to cover the cost of that, especially if they aren't getting a longterm telephone subscriber). $105.49 a month for the XTRA broadband explorer plan (including the line costs paid by XTRA to Telecom + XTRA's markup on that). Users will still pay what it costs to supply the lines. If it's not included in the cost of telephone service, it will still be charged for. |

| 467557 | 2006-07-01 04:08:00 | Hmm, this is why students usually flat with others .. so my part of the phone line bill was about $2 a week... I pay Telecom about $44 a month for a the phone line too and don't even bother to having a phone plugged in..... Take out a student loan :thumbs: |

Ring Woosh and ask them. Probably help if it was on the roof or haung out your window and you are high enough up. But then you are surrounded by millions of other high rise buildings. And Woosh normally has rubbish speeds. |

| 467559 | 2006-07-01 05:39:00 | There are a hordes of people around NZ on Dialup who think it's too slow, but can't afford anything faster. Paying for a roof over your head, food & general living expenses can take up all of the money coming in - even for people with jobs & pay packets. As gibler says, that's why students generally flat with others. if you could afford it in your circumstances, I'd be the first to ask how you did it ... ... and then start organising my new Porsche ... or maybe my London trip ... or perhaps a new house ... Depends on your priorities, of course. You could give up eating, perhaps? |

Agreed, I never suggested they would be free, even when re-reading the post I see no reference. It would be reasonable to assume they might be slightly cheaper than a phone enabled line, but never "free". |
