467474 2006-06-30 13:05:00 According to the instructions, IE7 Beta 2 must be uninstalled prior to installing Beta 3. When I tried using Add/Remove Programs, I got a message that said something about IE7 Beta 2 seemed to be already removed and did I wish to remove it from the Add/Remove Programs list. Silly me, I chose "yes". Of course, IE7 Beta 2 is still present (and usable) on my system.

So I tried removing it via Add/Remove Windows components - still no luck. Still have Beta 2 alive and well (!?!) on my system.

Anyone have any ideas?

(And before all the posts appear advising me to use Firefox or similar (:p), I do use Firefox occasionally, but not particularly happy with it's speed. I reserve the right to choose go against all the evidence/experience and stick with M$. I am reasonably happy with IE7 B2 - but it is a bit buggy, often freezing up when clicking a hyperlink from another application. Hopefully IE7 B3 has some improvements in this area. In addition, some online apps I use aren't Firefox-friendly) :D

467475 2006-06-30 13:09:00 You could try using Task Manager to shut down the instances of IE7 B2 appearing, they are probably for the pre load, then use add/remove. zqwerty (97)
467476 2006-06-30 13:33:00 I would have thought it would have updated IE not installed next to it.

Can you have all three IE's; IE6, IE7b2 and IE7b3 running at the same time?
Or do you only have one IE which you have updated to IE7b3 but only showing as IE7b2?

And the download site states that Beta 2 must be removed before Beta 3 is installed. Otherwise you get a message when running the executable that IE7 is already installed...

www.quirksmode.org Thanks Safari - the instructions here are great. I still have a problem in that I no longer have an IE item in Add/Remove Programs, even with "Show Updates" selected. (Damn, and I thought instruction sheets were for wussies! :) ). Any ideas on how to get IE back into Add/Remove Programs?

467481 2006-07-01 01:13:00 Neither Internet Explorer or Outlook Express have ever showed up on my Add & Remove list.
When I first noticed that, I assumed they were buried somewhere in Windows XP Updates or SP2.
So if there's a way of showing them, I'm also interested in knowing how.

467482 2006-07-01 06:22:00 IE7.2 worked great on my system. So when the next beta, 3, emerged I anticipated installing it.

Removed B2 and installed B3 only to find that it was unusable. The browser window wouldn"t resize and the CPU usage went to 100% slowing the system down to a crawl.

So I uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall it. It came up with a warning about a virus attack the name of which seemed to be the Miscrosft install program itself (sorry I forget the details). Subsequent installs now just fail to load the new broswer at all with no reasons given, and its defaulted back to IE6.

sigh .... thanks microsoft..... its running on a new machine with up to date service and security packs on winxp professional.

I occasionally got an IE spike in CPU using Beta 2 - was hoping that Beta # might offer some improvement in this area.

Looks like I might have something in common with one of these bloggers - I used CCleaner a few days ago: this may have deleted the uninstall folder and the executable without me noticing ... :groan: :annoyed:

Another blogger suggests copying the uninstall folder and contents for Beta 2 from another machine and running the executable directly. Luckily for me I actually have another machine with the same IE7 build installed, on which I have NOT run CCleaner. Might give this a try ...
