1393598 2015-02-04 08:18:00 Has anyone flown Premium Economy on Air NZ long haul to LA? Is it worth the extra cost, rather than Economy class? It's about twice the cost.

Cheers, LL

1393599 2015-02-04 22:50:00 No idea. What is the difference between them, aside from price and the fact that one sounds like an oxymoron? (Great work by the marketing guys!)

I'd say find out and then ask yourself if you're prepared to pay double for whatever extras you get.

1393600 2015-02-04 23:21:00 I flew Premium Economy to Melbourne a little while ago - worth the extra for the legroom alone! Then there's the food...

This would be even more pertinent on a longer flight. If you (or your airpoints) can afford it, go for it!

1393601 2015-02-04 23:59:00 8 hours into the flight, the extra $$ will seem like a pittance, even more desirable if you haven't paid it and have travel conditions little better than your luggage gets.
On the return leg, much more so.

1393602 2015-02-05 00:23:00 We flew Premium Economy Air NZ to San Francisco and thought it was well worth it. The service, meals and seating were way above Economy level. That was a couple of years ago.

Fast forward to 2014 when we used Premium Economy to fly to Amsterdam via Hong Kong. Air NZ to HK was very good, then we flew Cathay Pacific HK to Amsterdam. What a difference. In my view Cathay Pacific don't/didn't know the meaning of the word Premium. Apart from the extra room, everything else was exactly the same as Economy. All night long the staff were racing through our cabin to answer calls from the Economy section for snacks etc. Return journey our long haul flights were from Heathrow to HK then to Auckland using both Air NZ and CP.

The extra cost was well worth saving for regarding Air NZ but definitely not for CP.

LL if you are using a travel agent then ask what the feedback from other passengers is like.

ps...In both airlines we found the cabins to be colder than we wanted and so did other passengers we spoke with. Not so bad during daylight hours but night time I was so cold, even though I had umpteen layers of clothing on. The wonderful Air NZ steward brought me a duvet, obviously from the even more expensive cabins.
