1393204 2015-01-29 00:20:00 I have been given my brother's old iPhone3Gs, which is a big step up for me from older type cell phones. It is very easy to use for texting which I really like and is all I use it for as the lock-in to Apple services makes it useless for anything else, all I want to do is to add songs from my mp3 collections to the spare 15gig memory or so and play them with the headphones.

This is not possible unless I sign up for iTunes which I won't do as I don't want it on my computer. What a waste of good hardware.
Sounds like your brother should have given you a Samsung.

4 different methods here: www.wikihow.com others are possible if you Google them

Or just drop the mp3s into a dropbox folder (and install dropbox on the iphone)

Although I would personally just install iTunes and be done with it, only use it for syncing music to and from the device.
