Try it out in-store and see for yourself!

1393583 2015-02-07 10:36:00 HTC 803s One Max or HTC Desire or Sony Experia Z1 are good solid phones to consider. PerfectButter (17334)

My only consideration there is that I'm going from a phone with 2gb of RAM (with a fairly bloat-free variant of android as well).

1393585 2015-02-08 01:18:00 You'll still be fine ;-) Chilling_Silence (9)
1393586 2015-02-08 06:19:00 2GB of RAM in a sub $500 price bracket is pretty ambitious! Nick G (16709)
1393587 2015-02-08 08:22:00 Yeah basically, you've said "here's a budget, what would you recommend in it? BTW - I've decided I want this feature that I'm only likely to find in phones that are outside of my budget..."

Full marks for trying though! :D

1393589 2015-02-08 21:05:00 Also, I find touchwiz to be godawful. Would prefer to avoid.

I actually love it. But..
Samsung not releasing Android updates for anything but the most expensive ph's is an absolute shocker though. No better than a Chinese clone in that regard.
And the crap that Samsung pre-load on the ph's , that can't be uninstalled is inexcusable.

1393590 2015-02-08 21:20:00 Actually some of the chinese brands like Xiaomi are doing great when it comes to upgrades, more-so than the likes of Samsung. I think even Huawei are supposed to be upgrading a bunch of their phones from all over the price-spectrum to Lollipop. Chilling_Silence (9)
