467954 2006-07-02 07:50:00 I have a dell dimension 4500, and I wanted to upgrade the graphics card, and bump it up to atleast 1gb RAM. Can anyone give me recommendations of good/high quality graphocs cards that are compatible w/ my PC. It'll be primarily for running games/media. thanks for any help. crizzut (10648)
467955 2006-07-02 08:18:00 Is the video onboard? If it is, I would see what slots are available, ie: either AGP or PCI.

I would also check to see if the motherboard can go to or above 1 GB, and what kind of ram it takes.

Any videocard should work, if u have any spare AGP / PCI slots.

467956 2006-07-02 10:39:00 It's an AGP card, would I need to replace the card I have now, or could it run with both cards as long as I have the drivers for both? Ill check on the motherboard since I want to upgrade the RAM to 1G. crizzut (10648)

467958 2006-07-02 10:54:00 just replace the AGP card.

just be carefull. the pc only comes with a 250w power supply which will be a bit to small if you install a powerfull video card.

467959 2006-07-02 11:33:00 can anyone make a recommendation of specific AGP cards, 1GB RAM, and (if needed) a larger power supply and. I want a 1GB graphics card but I think that's kind of overkill. Also where is the best place to buy this stuff? the local comp store or are there better deals online? Sorry for such the noob question. crizzut (10648)
467960 2006-07-02 13:29:00 check out www.pricespy.co.nz

Graphic card the 6800gt 256mb,6800gs 256mb or a 7800gs 256mb those are all agp cards.

Power supply, Enermax Liberty is good,I have the 620w.

The 500w Enermax Liberty is cheaper and will do the job. :)

467961 2006-07-02 19:59:00 ok thanks, 1 last question. I looked through the page and the best AGP I saw had 256 MB, someone recommended the radeon x850xt platinum. Isn't that a PCI??? Can anyone give me a brand name of the best running AGP card or something? Sorry for the stupid questions again :o . crizzut (10648)

467963 2006-07-02 23:52:00 You could put any PSU you liked, recommend Enermax.

The website I linked to above shows your AGP bus protocols at 4x/2x modes at 1.5 V, so a flash card must support 4x

You can also only have up to 1Gb of SD RAM, two 512Mb sticks, suggest you buy from someware you can exchange the brand if that dosent work.
